Top 10 Ways To Prepare Your Vehicle For The Rainy Season

The rainy season is just around the corner. Before the skies start to darken, and clouds start to form, make sure to prepare your vehicle for the rainy season ahead. European Auto Repair wants to keep you and your family safe, during the rainy season. We have compiled a list of the top 10 ways to prepare your vehicle for the rainy season:

  1. Radiator Coolant Flush: Typically, coolant is known for keeping your car cool during the summer heat. However, our radiator coolant flush also protects our vehicle in freezing temperatures. If your coolant freezes, it can expand inside your engine, and essentially, destroy it. During the rainy seasons, temperatures are known to drop, so it would be wise to add “radiator coolant flush” to your to-do list.

  2. Battery Check-Up: Imagine being stranded in the rain with a broken-down car. Yes, we agree. It cannot be fun. This is why we recommend having one of our service technicians inspect your battery. During the wet and chilly mornings, your batter has to work extra hard to start your car.

  3. Proper Tires: Correct tires will have more traction on the road. It is important to make sure all your tires are in good shape and appropriate for the weather condition ahead.

  4. Maintain your windshield wipers: During the rainy season, our windshield wipers will be working overtime, which is why it is important to make sure the windshield wiper fluid is topped off, along with ensuring the wiper blades are in tip-top shape. If needed, replace your smearing wiper blades for better visibility, and always take the time to clean your windshield.

  5. Try your best to keep your gas tank relatively full: It is never a good idea to chance it on a near-empty tank, but it is even worse of an idea during the rainy season. It can result in starting and running problems.

  6. Working brake system: It is important to make sure your brakes are in pristine condition, especially if rainy weather is around the corner. Sometimes, your brakes are the only protection between a wreck and a safe stop.

  7. Invest in some jumper cables: You go out of your office, after a long day, and notice you left the lights on in your car. It is pouring rain out, and unfortunately, you do have any spare jumper cables. This one of the most frustrating experiences. Prevent situations like these with jumper cables stored in your trunk.

  8. Working headlights: In dark and damp weather, headlights are an absolute must. If you notice your bulbs are not as bright as they usually are, we recommend having a mechanic take a look.

  9. Surface Protection: When the weather takes a turn for the worst, the exterior surface of your vehicle is your first defense. The rain is full of minerals, so it is important to have your car waxed or covered in a sealant. Both of these will be a barrier against the onslaught of rain.

  10. Don’t forget about your sunroof: It can be both annoying and dangerous if your sunroof begins to leak, especially if you are driving during a storm. Have a professional take a look at your sunroof to make sure there are no leaks.

We strive to keep your vehicle in top condition. When we receive the first rains of the seasons, the roads are going to be slick with oil. During this time it is important to slow down, drive cautiously, and drive defensively. European Auto Repair is happy to take a look at your vehicle, to make sure everything is ready for the upcoming rainy season.
